Heidelberg Castle is a famous ruin in Germany and landmark of Heidelberg. The castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps. This depiction of the castle is a Belgian jacquard wall tapestry Heidelberg Castle, along with the city, was first destroyed by General Tilly of the Imperial and Holy Roman Empire's troops in 1622. The castle was rebuilt by Karl-Ludwig. The castle was destroyed a second and final time during the War of Succession, in 1693. Today the ruin of the Heidelberg castle remains a popular tourist attraction. Ruins are the pinnacle of what has been called historical Exoticism.
